Arco Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - Arnaud Toulon
Despite seeing so little marketing for this movie, I was specifically intrigued by this movie and am so glad that I went to see it. I did actually almost miss it, but got to watch it the last day it was in theaters. There is something so compelling about the art style of the animation. It has a type of nostalgia to it, despite being a futuristic fantasy movie.
This movie instantly took a spot in my top favorite films of all time, and a big part of that was because of the soundtrack that so thoughtfully and perfectly fit the themes in this movie. I've never written about a movie score before, so I hope do well with this one. A big part of the role of music in movies for me, is to portray the emotions of the scenes being shown. Whats shown on screen shows the story, and the music displays intent and depth.
Arco's hometown is in the clouds and the beginning score matches the airy and wistful scenery. The tracks convey this homely yet retro-futuristic longing. The track "Home", "Night Moves", and "Falling" illustrate the beginning of the young boy's journey to find a lost world he longs to see. The orchestral themes that flow the story along, provide a look into what it is that finds the viewer with the longing for the childlike curiosity and excitement that Arco has about traveling to times past.
The final track "Clouds Away" is the ending sequence track, and the only one that includes vocals. There is a hope and a warmth to this track that ties up the musical and theatrical themes of the film like a hug.
It was this track that drew me into falling in love to the point where I had to own music for myself. I immediately ordered the rainbow vinyl and shipped it across the world so I could hear it anytime, and I think you should too.
